Jamie Balfour BSc

Welcome to my personal website!

Technology enthusiast

I am very interested in technology, particularly relating to computer science. I am most interested in web design and development.

My main hobby is programming. One of my most well known products from this is ZPE. I also am the sole creator of BalfBlog, BalfBar and BalfSlider.

A little bit about me

In 1997, when I was six years of age, I got my very first computer. I was always very interested in the ins and outs of it and dismantled it to see how it worked.

Years later, in 2016 I received my BSc (with honours) in Computer Science, obtaining a First class degree.

I'd like to welcome you to my website and hope you enjoy using it as much as I have enjoyed building it!

Bespoke website development

Do you like my site and want one similar or do you want something totally different?

I do it all. From frontend development, to backend development, to WordPress, to custom a custom content management system (however, as of very recently, I have been including a free open source content management system called BalfBlog.)

I offer three distinct package examples, or templates if you will, that allow you to get an idea as to some sample base prices.

If for any reason, due to other works or whatever, I cannot work on your website (probably won't happen), I will notify you within 14 days from the start.

My hourly rate is £45 an hour.

The following example packages are available from me. Please note, these prices are not for the full website, these are the minimum charges I place on my services as I still charge £45 an hour.

1
Simple package
  • Construction of a responsive website
  • Create server side code for page generation and add several functionalities
  • Add content on up to 15 pages.
Base price range: £150
2
Advanced package
  • Construction of a responsive website
  • Create server side code for page generation and add several functionalities
  • Add content on up to 15 pages.
  • Deploy an SQL database as specified
Base price range: £200 - £500
3
CMS package
  • Construction of a responsive website
  • Create server side code for page generation and add several functionalities
  • Add content on up to 50 pages.
  • Deploy an SQL database as specified
  • Deploy a content management system
  • Deploy a blog
Base price range: £500+

I've worked with many different content management systems having worked with WordPress and Joomla, and have skills with many languages including JSP, PHP, ASP.NET (including C# and VB.NET).

I tend to expect within the range of £200 - £500 for a reasonably sized small business website.

If I were to charge someone for my own website I'd probably be looking at around £1000! But that's just because I've built so much into my own website over countless hours (and cans of Pepsi and cups of tea)!

Projects

Some clients may not wish for their website to be shared on my site for reasons to do with security and I am not be able to share them here.

VT10 Company Ltd
2014

This website was built for an individual's company that provides aerial displays for Airshows, Gala days, the Highland Games and many other functions throughout the country.

The website is built with a fresh design using HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery in a responsive design.

The website has a static design but there could be a need for future development in the form of a content management system.

The Castle Inn Dirleton
2015

This website was built for a medium sized pub and restaurant in East Lothian in Scotland.

The pub is one of my favourite places to eat so when I heard that they needed a new website I gave them my business card.

The website is built with a fresh design using HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery in a responsive design.

The website has an active restaurant menu that makes it easier for users to view different categories of food before they go and puts the website above the standard pub design websites out there.
